This special place in South West London between the capital and the country has been a Royal borough longer than anywhere else - it is where the first kings of England were crowned.

Like most places, the average age of our population is rising as more people are living longer, so we are working closely with residents to help them maintain their independence and further improve the cost effectiveness of our service to meet the ongoing rise in demand.
Kingston is home to people from diverse and interesting cultures and backgrounds, which helps to create the rich sense of community shared across the borough. In particular, Kingston has a large Sri Lankan Tamil community and is home to more people from Korea than any other part of the UK.
About the Role
Our Senior Insight Analysts help us turn raw data into insights and recommendations that will shape real change for Kingston residents. You'll create and lead data projects, engaging stakeholders and helping influence service design and decision making to bring about positive outcomes.
You will proactively seek out opportunities for exploratory data analysis, execute this analysis utilising advanced analytics techniques, and importantly, present your findings in an easy to understand and compelling way, making use of data visualisation tools such as Google Data Studio.
Key activities include:
- Ensuring senior management have the evidence on which to base strategic and service specific planning
- Working with (and potentially training) colleagues in the team, across the Council and in partner organisations to provide data insight expertise and develop the use and understanding of data
- Leading projects within Insight & Data Team
- Database report writing
- The ability to interpret what data is telling us and communicate this to a range of audiences through effective visualisation and presentation
- Responsibility for key team deliverables
- Looking forward and creating/developing relationships with data specialists in all sectors to understand and research new data streams and analytic options for use in the Council
Insight & Data Team
The Insight & Data Team provides an information and data analytics function for the whole Council. Our local authority is passionate about evidence led service design and transformation and the team has a key role to play in that. The range of services accessing our team ensures that we have a varied, stimulating portfolio of projects.
Our team performs a variety of tasks including specialist statutory functions for Adult Social Care, Children’s Services, Public Health and Community Safety. We also provide demographic and open data via the Kingston Data website, and data insight via needs assessments, data analysis, interpretation and visualisation.
The role of Senior Insight Analyst involves a variety of tasks from the list above and may become a specialist in one or more of the areas.
We are looking for a positive and enthusiastic person to join our close-knit team. The successful candidate will need to have the experience to lead workstreams and work independently to meet deadlines, whilst also being a strong team player who can work collaboratively within the team, organisation and with partners. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, and a meticulous approach to data analysis are vital to this role.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience in data analytics (local government experience desirable)
- A strong level of proficiency using programming languages such as SQL and R
- Writing and designing reports from databases and experience in data warehousing
- Data governance, management and security experience
- Proven Excel and statistical analysis skills
- Data analysis using a variety of systems and packages - experience in using some of the following software would be desirable: Google Suite, ArcGIS, Business Objects and Crystal Reporting, RStudio, Python
