The Role:

Joining our friendly, highly experienced team, you’ll take the lead in dealing with building control applications and enforcement of the building regulations. In doing so, you’ll be helping us transform our borough for the better, in turn improving our residents’ lives.

The role has a varied and challenging workload. You’ll work across all kinds of projects from schools to new homes. Managing a team of surveyors you’ll act as final signatory for building regulations applications, leading on plan checking and site inspections for complex projects and higher-risk buildings (HRB’s). You’ll take the lead as a principal officer for the Council’s Dangerous Structure Engineer (DSE) service, responding to major incidents and coordinating on-site council resources. 

Responding to councillor enquiries relating to the Building Control Service is also an important element of your work.

About You:

We’re looking for a building control professional with considerable experience working on major residential and commercial projects, including HRB’s. You’ll also need significant management experience, with expert knowledge of the building regulations, including fire safety and structure. 

As for skills, you should be a capable project manager, a skilled negotiator and adept at building a wide range of partnerships. You should also be a fully chartered member of a relevant body such as RICS, CABE or CIOB.
