About the role
The London Borough of Newham declared a climate emergency in April 2019 and set a goal for the borough to become "carbon neutral by 2030 and net carbon zero by 2050".
Buildings present a major challenge to the UK's Net Zero 2050 target, as a Landlord, local authorities can leverage change by enabling sustainable development and place making. This can be through action such as improving on the minimum building energy efficiency standards, which we hope will set an example for other commercial Landlord’s.
In accordance with our statutory obligations under the Energy Act 2011, all existing lettings must have an EPC that meets the minimum efficiency standards by April 2023. The role will be key to ensuring that all commercial properties have valid and compliant EPC ratings. As a result of the council implementing the minimum requirements, we will be able to identify those buildings that require improvement and make the changes necessary to let the property. This in turn will help Newham to remain a flourishing place to run a business with reduced energy costs for Tenants, and providing better air quality to residents from the reduced energy demands.
The role will involve managing your own diary to arrange appointments with Tenants and contractors, as well overseeing any works and reporting to the relevant surveyor after completion.
Key priorities for this role include:
- Generating EPC reports and recommending cost effective improvements that will have a big impact to the overall energy efficiency of building.
-Inspecting and measuring properties and reporting on any differences from our records and tenant comments
- Ad hoc duties including meeting contractors and providing access
A level 4 qualified EPC assessor who is able to manage their time well to ensure that all EPC’s meet the minimum efficiency standards before 1^st April 2023.
MRICS or MCIOB qualification is desirable but not essential.
