About us

Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Because we’re not just home to the UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has come up to provide maternity leave cover as a Principal Officer in the friendly Learning and Development Team.

The Principal Officer works in close partnership with teams and services across the Council to develop learning and development opportunities and interventions for staff at all levels. You will be encouraged to use a wide variety of learning methods, bringing learning close to the work and nurturing our learning culture. You will be focussed on purpose, approach, and measurable impact.

The role will manage multiple projects at the same time, often at pace and with complexity. You will also be involved in policy development and culture change initiatives. You will line manage a small team.

About You

You will love variety as no two days will be the same. You are enthused by learning culture and love to pilot new approaches and iterate based on experience.

You will enjoy engaging and collaborating with staff at all levels across the organisation and working with them to develop learning solutions which best meet their needs. You are someone who can confidently design, develop and deliver OD and LD approaches, often facilitating learning in a variety of formats e.g. online, offline and classroom.

You will have a good understanding of the role learning and development plays within a large organisation and be comfortable with managing change. You will be a confident project manager with proven experience of delivering multi-faceted projects, working with and managing stakeholders from across an organisation. You act positively, flexibly and constructively, bringing energy and focus to the work.

Over the course of this one-year maternity cover some of the key attributes you will have to succeed are:

The ability to work analytically with teams and services to help them identify underlying learning requirements, and collaboratively support them to meet and embed their learning. Creativity in learning design, using a combination of what is available and resourcefully designing in what’s needed. And a strong ability to create resources and learning materials, and facilitate sessions.

Curiosity about learning and how we can expand and improve learning in Camden. An appreciation of the importance of maintenance – of relationships with a range of stakeholders, and of the operations and content of a core learning programme. The ability to critically assess learning programmes and impact from a macro and elemental perspective, identifying gaps and improvements and bringing imaginative solutions.

A positive perspective on management and professional development. The ability to collaborate effectively and bring a wide range of voices into the work. Capacity to reflect on own learning and the learning from the work, and apply this to work
