You will play an integral role within the Media & External Relations team ensuring all communications are deployed using the latest evidence and insight. As well as leading the strategic direction of the organisation’s channel strategy and evidence base, you will feed into cross-cutting priority work to ensure communications and engagement channels are used to maximum effect.
Day-to-day, you will have oversight and lead development of a core suite of channels, platforms and networks, including managing the editorial and production for the Council’s flagship publications (print and online). This includes setting strategy with senior colleagues and managing budgets for these products. You will also be a senior point of contact for internal and external stakeholders to develop channel solutions to the Council’s complex needs for communication with a diverse range of audiences.
The channel strategy supports the wider Participation, Partnerships and Communications (PPC) service plan. You will contribute to the forward plan for priority campaigns and work with strategic communications team to ensure content is planned and co-ordinated across channels.
The post holder will report to the Head of Media & External Relations and has line management responsibility for a Media & Digital Officer. You will also work in a matrix style arrangement with the Council’s Media and External Relations Officers and members of the wider communications team.

To succeed in this role, you will have an excellent understanding of how the strategic use of print and digital channels play an essential role in good communications.
You will be well-versed in the latest developments in technology and channel trends, and be equipped to commission and design audience research, understanding how resulting insights translate in practice to a range of communications activity. As part of this, you will be confident in providing expert advice on methodologies and best practice around behaviour change to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
You will have strong writing skills and experience of targeting audiences effectively with a proven track record in managing systems and content for a suite of digital and print channels.
You will be experienced in working with senior stakeholders to contribute to and communicate an organisation’s strategic direction. Importantly, you’ll have the political nous required to operate within a politically led organisation, with an eye for campaigns, the news agenda and the development of planned impactful content that makes a difference.
You will have a degree-level qualification or equivalent.
