The Post
The Brent Registration & Nationality Service is in a position to offer three Registration Officer posts across Brent following the retirement of three dedicated team members.
We are keen to recruit highly motivated individuals who will be responsible for delivering births, deaths, marriages/civil partnerships, nationality and citizenship. This is a busy register office and open seven days a week. No one day is the same. These are major life events, you will need to deliver to a diverse community, having good communication both in person and on the telephone is therefore essential. You will assist the Superintendent Registrar and the Registrar in their duties within a statutory role. The ability to analyse and explain complex legislation is a must. As this is a legal role, you will engage with a variety of Stake holders such as; General Register Office, Home Office, Coroner Office and Hospital Bereavement teams and Medical Practitioners. You will need to have a standard Disclosure and Barring Service certificate for this role as we work in partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions. Empathy is a must and the ability to adapt your style of delivery, according to the appointment type. You could be registering a birth and next a death both very different in how you communicate with customers.
The Person
The role is extremely varied, so you will need to be able to adapt quickly to change whilst maintaining excellent customer service. You must be confident in enforcing and explaining legislation, and have the ability to work in a busy front-line focused environment. You will be required to make decisions in this role, due to the legal responsibility. We are looking for someone who is calm under pressure and well presented. Good IT skills are required for various IT systems in use, the post holder must have a keen eye for detail. Good hand writing skills are preferable as we have to use fountain pen to write archived certificates. If you enjoy public speaking, this role will suit you, Ceremonies both wedding/civil partnerships can be as small as four people to over 500 in attendance. Post holders are required to work one weekend in four on a rota basis, but there is the opportunity to work more at an overtime rate.
