About the team
The Camden Music Service, working as part of Camden Learning – our locally aligned schools-led partnership – aims to ensure that every child in Camden is equipped by their school to engage with meaningful musical activities in or out of school.
The Head of Music will lead the development and delivery of a world-class Music Service, ensuring strong outcomes for young people across Camden and strategic support for schools. The post holder will shape the long-term strategic vision and delivery model for the Service, ensuring it is equipped to support many future generations of musicians, as well as inspiring and equipping the central team and team of 150 freelance tutors to deliver high quality, impactful music provision for young people across the borough, supporting Camden Learning’s family of 60 schools in delivering a strong Music curriculum.
The existing post holder is retiring in April 2024.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS. Please note Camden also offers the DBS update service.

To be considered for this fantastic opportunity it is essential the successful candidate is qualified to degree level with music as a clear specialism either in a school or other professional musical setting. Additionally you’ll hold Qualified Teacher Status, DfE reference number and possess significant experience working with children and young people in schools or other relevant settings.
You will be an inspiring leader of music education with a vision for inspiring all Camden children and young people to engage in music, with the strategic leadership skills to successfully implement this vision across the borough, and an unconditional commitment to social justice and actively promoting equality of opportunity. As a well-qualified music professional with strong experience working with schools and expertise in the music education landscape, you will develop strong relationships with a range of stakeholders including schools, parents, politicians, funders and board members. With excellent team leadership and financial planning skills, you will lead a core central team and large team of freelance instrumental teachers, and will ensure the team is equipped to deliver a busy annual programme as well as high-profile, large-scale events.
